This Russian Doll set is handpainted by Tanya and is completely unique as Tanya never makes copies of her work.

This really is a one off 15 doll set as each doll has a different painting stunningly reproduced from priceless paintings in the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, the National Musuem of Russian Fine Art.

The painting depicted on the 34cm (13 inch) tall Mother Doll of the set is of "Boyarina Morozova" painted in 1887 by Vasily Ivanovich Surikov (1848- 1916).

Each doll within the set has the same body and face detail with a different work of Russian art re-created on each dolls front. The art painting detail is finely executed and edged with gold and each doll has a finely painted gold lacy veil on the back of the head.

Tanya personally signed the base of the mother doll for me on her visit to the UK.

Tanya Andreeva, A sought after Russian artist, has been painting Matryoshka dolls for over 20 years and is the most collected artist for them in the UK today.

With people queuing up to buy a russian doll in her intricate designs, the 49-year-old artist has even sold a small five doll set to Buckingham Palace. A couple of years ago a member of the Royal family at Buckingham Palace ordered one of the smaller sets, but the Palace wouldn’t let her know who it was.

Living in the town of Sergiev-Posad, just outside Moscow, Tanya came to Matryoshka painting later on in her career. She studied chemistry at Moscow University before taking up a job at a paint and lacquer factory in Sergiev-Posad.

In 1990, when the family were struggling to pay the bills, Tanya’s husband suggested that she tried her hand at painting the Russian Dolls.

Zoya said: “In the first week Tanya painted one set and took it to the special craft market where she sold it for a month’s wages.She kept painting from there and has now become one of the most collected Russian Doll artists in the world.”
